If you have been in Alaska long you know that the annual spring salmon derby is a pretty big deal. The derby began it’s 12th year on May 1st and will end on May 31st at 9pm. The derby is an opportunity to get out and enjoy SE Alaska waters, but it also is a chance to win a lot of great prizes, or even win the scholarship fish. The spring salmon derby is designed to be fun and provide residents a chance to get out and enjoy the water, boating and spending time with family and friends.

Cope Park
Cope Park is a lovely location near downtown Juneau between Capital and Calhoun Streets. Gold creek runs through the park and provides opportunities for spotting wildlife. Cope Park provides a bit of Juneau history as it winds along Gold Creek, which is the creek where Joseph Juneau and Richard Harris found gold.

It’s starting to get a bit depressing, but I try to remind myself that the reason Juneau is so green is because of the rain. It will get warmer and the sun will eventually come out!
Rain or Shine Juneau Has Plenty to Offer
Rainy days are common in Juneau, or rather I should say, sunny days are not common in Juneau. However, anytime the sun is shining in this town it reminds me of why I live here. There is no place as beautiful as Juneau. As a parent I know that rainy days can be cause for a crazy house. Kids are running around screaming or they sit around and complain of boredom throughout the day. Why not get kids out of the house rain or shine to enjoy Juneau?
