Rainy days are common in Juneau. As a parent it is sometimes very difficult to find activities for children when the weather outside is not at it’s best. I know from experience that children locked inside the house for any given period of time can lead to ornery children…who can blame them, they have so much energy!

Downtown Juneau Coming Alive for Summer
Summer is here! Well, maybe not quite, but the summer tourist season is just around the corner. I took some time to walk around downtown Juneau and there is definitely a feeling of something taking place. After living in Juneau for several years it is very exciting awaiting the first cruise ship of the season.
Mendenhall Glacier: A Nice Drive or Hike!
How many places can claim that they have a glacier in their city limits, easy accessible for all to enjoy? Juneau, of course. Mendenhall Glacier is located in the Valley and is approximately 12 miles from Downtown Juneau. It is a recreational area favored by locals. There are opportunities to take photographs, hike paved trails, view wildlife and take in the natural beauty. For some, this is even a location to soak up in the chilly waters on a hot summer day…I haven’t been crazy enough to swim in the waters yet!
Alaska Folk Festival
Juneau is a city which celebrates the arts. We have many local theatre, music and art groups right here in town. This year the Alaska Folk Festival took place April 7-13 in town. For many local residents the Folk Festival is a sign that spring is near. It is a not to be missed event which showcases the many talents that are in the state.
